On International Literacy Day, Coasted Code celebrates the power of literacy, digital skills, and coding education in creating opportunities for young people across Africa.
September 8, 2026 — Coasted Code
Today, Coasted Code joins the world in celebrating International Literacy Day, a reminder that literacy remains one of the most important foundations for learning, opportunity, and innovation.
But literacy in today’s world goes beyond the ability to read and write. As technology continues to shape how we learn, work, communicate, and solve problems, digital literacy is becoming equally important for the next generation.
At Coasted Code, we believe that when a child learns to read, they gain the ability to explore ideas and imagine new possibilities. When they learn digital skills and coding, they gain the tools to turn some of those ideas into reality.
This belief is at the heart of our mission: Shaping Africa’s Next Tech Innovators.
Through technology education and practical learning experiences, we want young people to move beyond simply consuming technology and develop the confidence and skills to understand it, create with it, and use it to solve problems in their communities.
As we celebrate International Literacy Day, we recognize the teachers, instructors, parents, schools, communities, and organizations working to make education more accessible to children everywhere.
Every book opened can introduce a new idea. Every new skill learned can create an opportunity. And every young person empowered to learn and build can contribute to Africa’s technological future.
Happy International Literacy Day from everyone at Coasted Code. 🧡
